Ill Met by Moonlight

"Have you heard the rumors? Something terrible stalks the eastern road at night. They say it leaves no survivors, looks like a bear or a boar standing upright, and, if you can believe it, has a pair of massive claws sprouting from its back...no, I don't know how they know what it looks like if it leaves no survivors."

It's been a bit since I last posted, I've been busy with real life just as much as painting miniatures. What's more, my friends and I finally started a new DnD campaign! But I can talk more about that later on. Let's look at what miniatures I painted during my absence.

First up we have the beast that stalks the eastern road. This miniature is a metal Reaper Miniatures "Demon Marbrezuk" that I picked up when it was missing a head for $1 from my local game store. I like to practice sculpting with green stuff whenever I can and I think I did exceptionally well with sculpting this creature's head. I was originally going for a more wolfish head but it ended up becoming some strange hybrid between bear and boar with a tiny bit of rat thrown in there as well. I guess he's a man-bear-pig-crab or something.

Next we have one of the Zombicide: Black Plague player miniatures. This one is "Samson". I don't think there's anything real special I did with him. He is a pretty tabletop standard paint job. If there is one thing I'd like to maybe go back and touch up on him it'd be adding some detail to his yellow pants. Maybe some black lines or just some sort of texture to make them more interesting?

Another Black Plague player miniature, "Ann" the nun. When I was painting her I thought of her as a cleric or maybe even paladin of the Triad. The Triad is the faith of most humans in my world and is centered around the elevation and unification of mankind. Though most members of the Triad are easy to get along with and tolerable of non-humans, the fanatics are not so much.

Finally, I painted a miniature from the Cadwallon board game. I believe this miniature is "Harid" but I painted him as the eponymous King in Yellow. Yellow is not a color that I have a lot of experience painting but I managed to get it done moderately well through the use of contrast paints. You might notice that the King in Yellow is holding some sort of holographic card. Maybe it's a Blue Eyes White Dragon?

Aside from these miniatures I also painted more of the zombies from Zombicide: Black Plague. I have about thirty or so zombies left from that set so I still have a ways to go. Luckily, the zombies take very little time to finish to an acceptable standard. I believe I have something like 65 miniatures left to paint. That number is about to get a bit higher as I ordered quite a few miniatures from Miniature Market during their memorial day sale. And thus grows the gray pile of shame...

Like I said in my earlier post, my friends and I recently started our Dungeons and Dragons campaign. Last night the party managed to recover the stolen Beltane festival beer from the caves of stony goblinoids for the mayor of Aufglück. After some much needed rest they decided to head into the woods known as the Schneckhölz to look for a teenager nicknamed "Pale Face" and an alchemist college student doing his field work from the town. Before the session ended they managed to find Pale Face who had simply gotten lost in the woods. They now set off deeper into these woods with Pale Face in tow, hoping to find the student and return to Aufglück safe and sound.

It feels great to be back in the saddle DMing. I love coming up with the world around the characters and seeing how they interact with the world. I can't wait to see what other adventures they get up to!

    Until next time!
