+Conflict on Paradisio+

Captured from a skirmish between an Iron Warriors warband and the Blood Angels on the hive world of Paradisio. This small conflict would end in an absolute victory for the sons of Sanguinius as the Iron Warriors were crushed beneath a rapid jump pack fueled onslaught.

Remember in my last post how I said I needed to stop biting off more than I could chew? Well guess who has two thumbs and can't follow his own advice?

I put a bunch of different things in my painting queue since last time I posted. The picture above is what I most recently painted up. These are Har-Ganeth Executioners and they are by far my favorite model from Warhammer Fantasy. They claim that position through their badass skull facemasks and their absolutely massive two-handed "draichs". I painted them by laying down a gold basecoat on their main armor and skull facemasks and painting pretty much everything else black. Once that had dried I used one of my favorite tricks, contrast over metallics, on the main sections of the armor to leave the trim gold. After that I gave some small gray highlights to their cloaks and decided to bust out an oil wash. I think the oil wash really made these guys look amazing. I had actually painted three executioners in a similar scheme earlier last year but they look pathetic compared to these guys!

Well what else did I paint? I didn't take photos of them but I went back to my old Iron Warriors army and stripped then repainted the Master of Possessions and the two Greater Possessed from Shadowspear. Why did I do this? Well I decided to try playing 40k a week ago! I played a 500 point game against somebody who was much better equipped and way more competitive than I and well, I remember exactly why I didn't like 40k that much. Maybe I'll play again but if I do it's going to have to be with a narrative focus as that's what I feel I'd get the most joy out of.

Our DnD game is still going strong. Last Friday we had our fourth session where the players journeyed East to the bustling town of Pritzock on the border with the Elgenruud. Their journey through the forest brought them across an old man named Calistar Drune who claimed to be a funerary worker but our rogue discovered that he was involved in shadier business, though he had nothing on him to sell as of now. They camped for the night but their rest was disturbed when they heard some sort of celebration going on nearby. Sneaking (very poorly) to the source of the noise they surprised a group of beastmen and promptly engaged them in a fight.

The party was victorious but not before the cleric, Paelius, contracted a strange illness from an arrow wound. They hurried off to Pritzock in the morning arriving just as night fell. Almost all the expeditions to gather valuable moonstone in the Elgenruud come to Pritzock as their last stop in human civilization. Unfortunately these expeditions usually don't leave town with everybody they brought along: deserters, the infirm, and those who simply missed their caravan's departure have created a large vagrant population. To make matters worse the town guard is led by a very by the book cadet from the military academy in lieu of an actual guard commander. If you thought that was bad, well, there's been plenty of grisly murders of the vagrant populace and of course the party has been thrown in the midst of it! This week they've said they want to talk to the political head of the town and check out a ruin they passed by on their way. As always, I can't wait to see where their adventures take them.

This week I really do want to try and not bite off more than I can chew with painting. I have a Stormcast Vindictor that I got free from my local GW that I think I'll focus my efforts on. Until next time!
