These Cold Halls

He strode down the unlit halls, gazing at the ruins of the temple he was dedicated to. Where were the Triadic monks? The fathers, the Repentia, and the rest? The Erloster was in ruins and not a soul was here besides for him. He continued onwards, nothing but the sound of his boots clanging on flagstone in disrepair echoing in the tall chambers.

This week I only managed to paint a single miniature, the free Stormcast Vindictor I got from my local GW store. Wow, just in time to join the boycott against them!

This is Kurt Helsnikt, a paladin of the Triad who was interred in the Erloster. The Erloster is a massive cathedral complex built upon the holy site where Mar, the father of the Triad, supposedly nursed himself back to health after doing battle with Valdregott. In the year 752YF the Erloster is an abandoned ruin thought to be haunted by the spirits of those interred there. Other rumors state that the very blood of Mar has pooled at the site and that's why the Cathedrals were built in the first place. Who's to say what truth lies to any of these claims?

In terms of painting I gave the miniature a black base coat followed by spotty scratches and stipling with metallic silver. Anything that's not metal was painted with multiple extremely thin layers of paint to sell the effect of old and faded material. I then gave the whole thing an oil wash to give it a grimy I-am-a-revenant-paladin-of-a-fanatical-warrior-faith-and-I-am-here-to-disembowel-you feel.

Two Fridays ago my players and I had our fifth session of our DnD game. We also welcomed a tiefling warlock to the group! Most of the session was spent touring the house of a moonstone expedition financier in Pritzock. What started out as tour of the eccentric house turned into my players sedating him and going through everything and anything trying to find some nefarious secret. After reading his journal and the owner waking up, they discovered the house was haunted by demons and ghosts and that is why he was trying to sell it so desperately. The owner then told them that if they managed to cleanse the house he would give it to them for free. Despite multiple warnings concerning the severity of the haunting, they persisted; and that's how we ended the session with the rogue suffering from an excruciatingly painful wound dealt by a blade demon's spear!

There are three things I'm coming to realize from this group of players and campaign so far...
  1. I already knew this but I always find myself relearning that it's really important to know your players. They might have said that last session they wanted to check out the Erloster but at the end of the day they're gonna do whatever is most interesting to them.
  2. If you feel like you know your world thoroughly, you don't have to prep as much. This is something I've been working on from listening to Runehammer.
  3. I find myself wishing I was a player a lot of the time!

Anyway, this Friday we're planning on playing our sixth session. In terms of painting, I only have one miniature on my table right now that I plan to paint but maybe I'll get around to more. Until next time!
