A little more than just, "a battletech mini or two"- I painted up the entire Clan Heavy Striker Star! I painted them up to resemble members of Clan Goliath Scorpion, Gamma Galaxy. Still getting my head around Battletech lore but I loved the idea of a clan with a faction of treasure hunters and a clan who imbibe hallucinogenic venom to undergo vision quests. Here are the mechs!
Hellbringer/Loki

Ice Ferret/Fenris

Viper/Dragonfly

Vulture/Maddog

Gargoyle/Man O' War

I painted up the Hellbringer first followed by the Gargoyle. After that I don't really recall the order. I painted them with Flesh Tearer's red contrast paints over a zenithal prime, retributor gold for their gold trim, brown/black with spots of runefang steel for their battle damage, and then terradon turquoise over runefang steel for their cockpits. Before making the sand on their base I applied some rocks and the desert ferns which are just trimmed plastic aquarium plants. I imagined these guys, fresh from a battle, seeking out relics on the dunes of some far off world. I wanted to make cacti for their bases but I couldn't figure out a way to do so while on quarantine (I'm sure I could've bought some model train cacti but I didn't want to wait). The sand dunes are made from a paste I created using acrylic caulk, water, and baking soda. I applied it to the base and as it dried, teased it into sand dune like ridges using a toothpick.

It's very refreshing working at a different scale than I usually do. I'm not sure what exactly my next Battletech purchases will be but getting some artillery pieces, infantry, and making some terrain are on my to-do list. Of course, playing a game is also on my to-do list. I might have to enlist my girlfriend for that as my efforts combing for Battletech players in my area have proven fruitless...

DnD remains in limbo...I've had a couple game ideas come up in my head during this time but I think the way I'd like to continue to play DnD would be using a more traditional (OSR) ruleset and doing away with my more in-depth prep...and playing with rotating GMs or at least campaigns with defined endings. I think switching rulesets might be a bit much to ask with my current 5e group, even though we play my hacked version of 5e it's still 5e with its plethora of skills and features for characters.

Well, hopefully when I get out of quarantine I can make some moves to revitalize my DnD game and find some people to play Battletech with.

Until next time!
