It's been a few weeks! Plenty of printing and painting got done in that time but no playing of any games. That being said, I did join a 5e game and I'll hopefully get my first session in this week. Anyway, here's what I have to show!

I actually printed out this lance and another. My plan is to offer to teach people to play Battletech with these mechs and maybe offer to print them a lance if they're really interested. We'll see how that goes. I wanted to make this lance look much more like military hardware than the Goliath Scorpion star I painted up. I think I did a pretty good job for keeping to such a low effort paint job consisting of contrast paints and oil washes.

Ball and Chain Soldier by Schlossbauer on Thingiverse |

Agahnim by Schlossbauer on Thingiverse |

Black Imp by Schlossbauer on Thingiverse |
I just have to link to Schlossbauer's Thingiverse page. I absolutely love all his sculpts and they have just great character to them. The only thing that I didn't really realize is how large Agahnim and the Ball and Chain Soldier would be! They tower over the rest of my miniatures. Maybe they'll be half-giant baddies in a DnD game? I painted the Black Imps and the Ball and Chain Soldier using exclusively oils; attempting a new painting medium is really frustrating and I don't really achieve the results I'm looking for. I'm considering getting new oil paints but honestly, I'm not sure if it's worth it.
So I joined a DnD 5e game where the plan is to rotate the DMs. The group is playing pure DnD 5e which is really not something I'm that interested in but giving it a try won't hurt. The title image is my character for the game. We're playing in a world created by the "original" DM and I chose a pre-generated Human Barbarian hailing from the horse lord tribes of the region we're in. Human Barbarian, can't get more classic than that! We'll see how effective this game is at scratching my itch. It's just kind of frustrating playing pure 5e especially because I love the way I run my own DnD games.
I feel like the gritty fantasy, high lethality, 3d6 stats type of games I like to run just aren't that popular. All of my experiences seeing/meeting DnD players aside from my main group has consisted of people talking about making "builds" or "breaking the game by using _______" and I that's a huge tabletop turn-off for me. I get how that sort of thing can be appealing to people but I like to roleplay in my games, not roll-play.
In my LGS facebook group somebody posted about looking for people to play Path to Glory Age of Sigmar with, maybe that'll be me? Path to Glory sounds like my jam and with a 3d printer making an army is a fraction of the cost. We shall see!
Until next time!
